When families begin looking for senior living or skilled nursing care, they often hear similar promises: compassionate care, dedicated team members, and a commitment to quality. But for families making an important decision for someone they love, the question becomes: How can you know when a community is truly committed to improving the way it serves residents?
At Bethea Retirement Community, that commitment has earned national recognition.
Bethea Retirement Community is proud to have earned the 2026 Bronze – Commitment to Quality Award from the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL).

The recognition represents an important step in Bethea’s ongoing commitment to continuous improvement and to creating an environment where residents can live with dignity, comfort, support, and a true sense of home.
What Is the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award?
The AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program is a nationally recognized performance excellence program for long-term and post-acute care organizations.
The program is based on the Baldrige Excellence Framework, a nationally recognized framework that helps organizations evaluate their operations, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop sustainable systems for long-term success.
Organizations participating in the National Quality Award Program progress through three levels:
Bronze – Commitment to Quality
The first step establishes a foundation for continuous quality improvement. Organizations assess their mission, vision, key characteristics, challenges, and the systems that support improvement.
Silver – Achievement in Quality
After earning Bronze, organizations may pursue Silver by further evaluating their approaches to improvement and demonstrating how those approaches support organizational performance and health care outcomes.
Gold – Excellence in Quality
The program’s final level requires organizations to address the Baldrige Excellence Framework in its entirety and demonstrate superior performance across key organizational areas.
Each level builds upon the one before it, creating a pathway for organizations committed to continually strengthening how they serve residents.
What Does the Bronze – Commitment to Quality Award Mean?
Earning Bronze means Bethea has taken an important step in a structured journey of continuous quality improvement.
As part of the Bronze process, participating organizations examine fundamental elements of how they operate, including their mission, vision, organizational characteristics, key challenges, and performance improvement systems. Applications are evaluated against criteria based on the Baldrige Excellence Framework.
Rather than representing a ranking or a traditional rating, the Bronze Award recognizes the development of a strong organizational foundation for continued improvement.
For Bethea, it represents something equally important: a willingness to closely examine how we operate today while continuing to identify opportunities to become even better tomorrow.
Part of a Nationwide Commitment to Quality
Bethea joins a nationwide group of long-term care providers recognized through the program in 2026.
AHCA/NCAL announced a record 893 Bronze – Commitment to Quality Award recipients across all 50 states and the District of Columbia this year. The recipients included skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, combined skilled nursing and assisted living providers, and other long-term care organizations.
Being part of this national effort reflects Bethea’s commitment to an ongoing process of learning, evaluation, and improvement.
What Does This Mean for Bethea Residents and Families?
For residents and families, quality is about much more than receiving an award.
It is about creating thoughtful systems and processes that support consistency. It is about understanding what matters most to residents. And it is about having an organization that continually evaluates how it can strengthen the experience of the people it serves.
That philosophy complements the community residents experience every day at Bethea.
Located in Darlington, South Carolina, Bethea Retirement Community offers multiple levels of living and support, allowing residents to remain connected to a familiar community as their needs change.
Bethea’s Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation services are another example of the community’s resident-focused approach. Bethea’s 88-bed skilled nursing facility provides access to nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, social services, dietary services, activities, and additional support.
Bethea has also introduced the Household Model within its new Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Designed around smaller, residential-style households, the model emphasizes resident-directed living, privacy, choice, and an environment that feels more like home.
Bronze Is a Beginning
Perhaps the most meaningful part of earning the Bronze – Commitment to Quality Award is that Bronze represents the beginning of the journey, not the end.
The AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program is intentionally progressive. Bronze establishes the foundation, while Silver and Gold require increasingly comprehensive approaches to organizational improvement and performance.
For Bethea, earning Bronze provides an opportunity to celebrate an important accomplishment while continuing to look ahead.
We are grateful for the team members whose dedication made this recognition possible, and we remain committed to learning, improving, and providing an environment where residents and families can feel confident about the care and community they choose.
Congratulations to the entire Bethea Retirement Community team on earning the 2026 AHCA/NCAL Bronze – Commitment to Quality Award.
